A new beginning

I’ve been writing stories all my life, but only started writing screenplays after taking an extension class at City College of San Francisco (best $33 I ever spent!). That first screenplay was based on a short story I had written in college.

Now, many years later, I can’t imagine writing a story that’s not a screenplay. My list of ideas is very long, and I draw inspiration from all over—books and magazine articles I’ve read, experiences I’ve had, conversations I overhear when walking around NYC. I highly recommend eavesdropping for dialogue and story ideas.

I create time for screenwriting at night and on the weekends, sometimes working with a writing partner and sometimes working alone. Writing can be solitary, so working with a writing partner can alleviate that, and give you another person to brainstorm with and to keep you honest. I’m also part of a few organizations (NYWIFT, The Girls Club) that have been invaluable for exposing me to other writers and filmmakers.

Please contact me if you’d like to read any of my work, if you’d like to collaborate, or if you’d just like to chat about how to get started on your screenplay.
